  • Responsible to Manage all aspects of a 2,500 sow, pasture based farrow to wean sow farm

  • Responsible for meeting weekly shipping targets of full-value pigs

  • Ensure that ALL animals across the farm have received proper feed, water, ventilation, bedding, and care on a daily basis

  • Ensure that all NR protocols are completely (100%) met and followed at ALL times

  • Manage all aspects of the farm to ensure farm goals are met and tasks are completed on a daily basis

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the successful execution of weekly goals including: breeding targets, farrowing targets, pigs shipped, and financial targets

  • Manage, keep, communicate, and report accurate records on a daily basis for both production and financial data

  • Responsible for placing all orders and maintaining current inventory and supplies order list (vaccines, semen, fuel, bedding, feed, etc.)

  • Direct cleaning/bedding of farm and maintaining appropriate equipment, in compliance with NR and local, state, and federal regulations

  • Ensure that all farm grounds, animal pens, facilities, equipment, etc. are routinely cleaned, maintained, and in working order

  • Manage Period Close inventory, cost analysis, and cost control

  • Develop and implement a vision for constant improvement of key performance metrics including: sow herd and piglet survival rates, number of pigs weaned, farrowing rate, and land management

  • Responsible for staff development and succession planning across all departments

  • Any other duties as assigned, requested, or directed by management/supervisor

Minimum Education

B.S. degree in Animal Science or related field, AND a minimum of three-years’ experience in a straw-bedded pork production system

Experience Requirements

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

  • Ability to lead by example, and manage a team of 4-7 people

  • Strong knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to problem solve, be a critical thinker, goal oriented, and a team player

Experience Preferred

  • Develop daily and weekly work schedules of tasks needed to be completed

  • Coach, Train, and Develop Department Managers on a daily basis

  • Assist with goal setting and conduct annual reviews of all direct reports - MyPearl

  • Protect health and safety of staff and ensure humane treatment of animals

  • Promote cooperation within and across departments through staff and equipment sharing

  • Anticipate and prevent problems rather than allowing them to develop and reacting to them

  • Notify and discuss openly with management any problems, questions or concerns

  • Organize, prioritize and manage time to maximize quality and efficiency of work
