Summary

The overall purpose of this position is to manage the strategic and operational aspects of Perdue AgriBusiness Ocean Vessel operations. Further, it involves negotiation and management of ocean freight contracts and charter party terms and conditions.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement ocean freight transportation strategies to support the business units

  • Manage and negotiate ocean freight and charter party terms and conditions to leverage market economics and service requirements

  • Manage and negotiate stevedore, freight forwarder, inspection, document processing, and all ancillary services at both loading and unloading ports

  • Manage ocean vessel operations to include scheduling for arrival, acceptance of vessels, and communicating with ship's agents, master, and crew to optimize cargo loadings

  • Manage and provide recommendations to minimize the demurrage associated with ocean vessel shipments

  • Manage, audit, and approve ocean freight and service invoices, laytime calculations, and port cost accounts

  • Research and communicate to the business units potential changes in export, import, transportation rules, regulations, and security requirements, and provide appropriate recommendations that will ensure compliance

  • Develop strong relationships with ship owners, ship brokers, and port representatives, and be current with activities and issues that may impact the AgriBusiness ocean freight business

  • Perform other tasks and project work as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Education

  • BS Degree (Transportation, Business Management, Business Logistics, or Agriculture)

  • MBA preferred

Experience Requirements

  • Knowledge of commodity trading and merchandising

  • Knowledge of custom regulations, federal maritime regulations

  • Knowledge of international ocean shipping regulations and laws

  • Knowledge of ocean freight chartering and contract management

  • Knowledge of ocean vessel shipping industry

  • Knowledge of the port and terminal selection process

  • Strong negotiating skills

  • Strong organizational, communication, planning, and analytical skills

  • Understanding of standard and international software applications

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  • Normal controlled office environment

  • Able to move freely about the AgriBusiness facilities to include exposure to extreme temperatures (0-100 degrees Fahrenheit), humidity (0-110%), noise (50-100 db), and chemicals (MSDS sheets available)

  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment

  • Required to travel to remote facilities for training briefings and meetings

  • Able to use standard office equipment
