We have an exciting opportunity for a Port Safety Representative in Chesapeake, VA . The core responsibility of this role is to support port grain and bulk commodity handling operations by providing safety and compliance training, policy and program management, and safety leadership.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and deliver required safety training to include new hire safety orientation, competency-based training assessments and special emphasis training, including operations-based training
Support operations leadership with a safety policy, program, and standard operating procedure management and development
Participate and assist in leading incident investigations to determine root cause and implement effective corrective actions
Conduct and document regular walk-thru assessments and observations of all operations and specific job tasks to analyze current hazard risks
Maintain awareness of regulatory issues and industry best practices to ensure compliance with internal policy/procedures
Build effective working relationships with key operations stakeholders to positively influence a strong safety culture
Lead the site safety committee
Minimum Education
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience Requirements
5+ years of experience working in a terminal, or export grain handling operations or safety that includes vessel, barge, rail, and truck operations
Knowledge of grain handling receiving and storage technologies
Understanding of Microsoft software applications
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills
General understanding of OSHA, USCG, NFPA, and ANSI regulations and standards
Experience with development and delivery of safety training content
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
Able to move freely throughout the AgriBusiness facilities including climbing vertical heights (0 – 150'), carrying tools and equipment (0 – 100 pounds), exposure to extreme temperatures (0 – 100 Degrees Fahrenheit), humidity, (0 – 100%), noise (50db to 100db) and chemicals (SDS sheets available). Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including self-contained breathing apparatus. Required to travel to remote AgriBusiness facilities, vendor, and customer locations. Able to use standard office equipment.
