We have an exciting opportunity for a Port Terminal Supervisor at our Grain Elevator & Export Facility located in Chesapeake, VA . The core responsibility for this role includes leading the work of teams and crews in the day-to-day operational activities to include Barge, Vessel and Railcar operations of the grain storage facility in order to maximize its efficiency and productivity.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Lead, coordinate, and direct the activities for the terminal staff to include hiring, training, and developing the staff to meet the needs of the facility.
Ensure safe working conditions for all associates, contractors, and visitors.
Lead and develop continuous improvement ideas and process for associates, facility operations, projects, and tasks.
Maintain and foster the team environment and processes with maintenance, oil production, corporate, and other business units.
Ensure the condition of grain is maintained and or improved while in storage.
Responsible for coordinating and directing all facility housekeeping requirements and activities.
Develop and lead capital and expense projects for safety, efficacy, and process improvements.
Coordinate with grain merchandising to ensure positive customer relationships and timely and least cost movement of grain.
- Bachelors degree in Agriculture, Logistics, Maritime, Business or related discipline (preferred)
1-5 years of Agriculture, Operations or Maritime related experience preferred
1-2 years of S upervisory experience
Knowledge of bulk commodity handling and storage technologies
Understanding of port operations including vessel, barge, rail, and truck operations
Understanding of standard software applications.
Understanding of commodity markets
Must be able to work a rotating, swing shift
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
Able to move freely throughout the agribusiness facilities including climbing vertical heights (0 -150'), carrying tools and equipment (0-50 lbs.), exposure temperatures (0-100) degrees Fahrenheit, humidity (0-100%), noise (50db to 100db) and chemicals (MSDS sheets available). Must be able to wear protective equipment to include dust mask. Required to travel to remote agribusiness facilities and customer locations.
