Summary
The Regional Safety and Security Manager is responsible for managing the occupational safety program across a business segment of all Perdue Foods’ manufacturing operations. A business segment is a grouping of manufacturing plants and their affiliated satellite operation. The regional manager acts as the primary safety business partner to the applicable VP of Operations. The position will develop and implement world-class safety business practices, risk mitigation and compliance efforts which ensures compliance with corporate, OSHA, USDA, NFPA, and DOT safety requirements and lead occupational safety efforts which achieve Perdue Farms “Do No Harm” injury-free culture, conduct root-cause analysis of health and safety incidents. Finally, s/he will implement solutions which remove hazards from the workplace. The position will supervise all plant safety personnel within the plant grouping and lead talent development and retention efforts which ensure top talent exists across each operations’ safety department. The position will through the site safety managers develop site-specific risk management plans and led other safety related capital projects or innovation/continuous improvement safety initiatives.

Position will be based in one of plant locations they will regionally have responsibility for (South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland and Delaware) with approximately 30-50% travel.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Works closely with the VP, Operations, and Directors of Operations within the business segment, and senior leaders across the business segment to establish and cultivate the Perdue Farms’ Do No Harm Safety Culture and achieve all desired safety metrics.
Provides safety and occupational risk management leadership to the business segment’s senior leaders, managers and employees.
Serves as the region’s operations safety subject matter expert when working with OSHA, USDA regulators and Perdue Farms staff, on any safety related projects, regulatory responses, or audits/inspections.
Manages all safety staff and resources in accordance with departmental budgets. When necessary, in conjunction with Talent Acquisition recruits each operation’s safety leadership team. Works within the Corporate framework to foster the career growth of safety professionals.
Serve as the senior safety point of contact for the regions Health & Wellness personnel, Corporate Security, and other Perdue Farms corporate safety leadership. Responsible for establishing and maintaining working relationships with all division personnel, directors of operations, facility management personnel & team leaders, state regulators, contractor representatives and associates.
Leads and conducts corporate occupational safety and health audits, submits executive summary reports along with their corrective actions to ensure that all assigned sites are following all Company and regulatory standards, programs, and processes in the areas of safety, health ergonomics, workers’ compensation/loss control and property protection. Maintains appropriate scorecards and metrics necessary to track the business segment’s safety success.
Creates and effectively manages plans and best practices to achieve all safety goals and metrics. Investigates, evaluates, develops, and implement world-class safety best practices.
Ensures that effective safety educational/training infrastructure exist and is in full practice across all plants and satellite facilities within the region, safety new-hire orientation and ramp-in is being delivered to all newly hired employees at all levels.
May represent the Company at various regional, state, or local industry safety conferences, corporate meetings and committees pertaining to Safety and Perdue world-class safety culture as directed by the Sr. Director of Corporate Safety.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in environmental, safety & heath, or industrial health management, or occupational health & safety, plus 10+ years’ experience in manufacturing safety management. Demonstrated experience leading a world-class safety program which has achieved <1.0 TRIR. Must possess a valid driver’s license and US passport. Our ideal candidate will have the following:

Proven ability to lead and influence others. Ability to establish positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and motivate employees and communicate objectives and action plans.
Ability to research pertinent facts, data, and other information from internal and external sources.
Proficient use of computer and corresponding programs – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OHM, SAP.
Ability to implement behavioral-based safety techniques to improve/maintain safety performance.
40-hour HAZWOPER certification and current annual 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher.
CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
Ability to speak English, plus Spanish and/or French.
Experience Preferred
A master’s degree in Environment, Safety & Health. Certification from the Board of Safety Professional (CSP) or the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
Position requires an associate to have the ability to move throughout the complex and all facilities.
When in a plant environment:
Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity. May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility.
Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.
Must be able to work in confined and or permit required confined spaces and heights.
Must be able to work on and or around operating equipment.
Must be trained and use Lockout/Tagout.
