Summary

The purpose of the Chemical Process Technician is to maintain and operate machinery associated with Antimicrobial Applications throughout the plant. This includes operation of the Chiller on Dayshift and Oversight of the Second Shift Chiller Operator and interventions on Night Shift.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Maintain the chiller operations throughout the shift by visually monitoring the water levels, water temperature, air settings, water meters, mechanical operations and water overflow.

  2. Operate the PCC system to meet Intervention requirements for on time shift startup and maintain continuous production in the Milford Facility.

  3. Perform titrations of intervention levels accurately and in a timely manner, clearly document results, make necessary adjustments to maintain in control.

  4. Clearly complete all documentation associated with bird temperatures, PAA levels, pH, make up water gpb and water levels, etc. All required paperwork completed and turned into the QA/HACCP office at the end of each shift

  5. Report system issues to facility leadership including maintenance and production.

  6. Perform minor troubleshooting and maintenance of systems, including PCC shed housekeeping

  7. Utilize all Chemical Safety Processes and PPE as required by company policy

  8. Identify and train a qualified backup associate on each shift.

  9. Communicate with chemical vendors and technical support as needed.

Minimum Education

High School or equivalent not required but beneficial.

Experience Requirements

Strong reading, communication math, writing and analytical skills are required. Experience with chemical handling and dosing pump applications.

Experience Preferred

Experience in poultry processing/manufacturing environment preferred.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

When in a plant environment:

  1. Temperature exposure ranges from less than 32°F to over 85°F. Dampness exposure is ambient.

  2. Walking/standing surfaces are wet, dry, greasy and on metal grating.

  3. Chemical exposure includes chlorinated water, ammonia vapors at more than 5ppm, carbon fuel fumes, lubricating oils and hydraulic oils and paa.

  4. Noise exposure is 90-94.9dB with light intensity exposure.

  5. Tools used are screw drivers, plyers, knives.

  6. Personal protection equipment/devices are hearing protection, vision protection (glasses/goggles), rubber gloves, cotton gloves, hard hat, apron, lab coat and hair net.

  7. Maximum distance walked is more than 100 feet. Walking surface is dry, wet, greasy, rough and or uneven.

  8. Occasional standing is with variable mobility. Longest interval of time spent sitting is less than 1 hour with variable up/down position.

  9. Maximum weight lifted is 20-40 pounds. Starting position height of lift is floor level and final position height of lift is 4-5 feet. Extension reach during lift is more than 24 inches.

  10. Body position during lifting is bending over. Longest interval of time spent reaching is less than 1 hours.

  11. Objects grasped are poultry parts, hand tool, equipment handles and containers.

  12. Objects are grasped with both hands. Percent time interval grasping is 76-100%.
