The Accounting Manager partners with commercial, operations and finance associates to manage financial support functions for the Grain business unit. Financial support may include accounting, financial analysis, planning, forecasting and related business support.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and maintain proper accounting procedures and internal controls for the Grain Facilities and trading activities in accordance with best practice, GAAP and company policies.
In accordance with the company accounting calendar, preparation of monthly closing activities for assigned areas of responsibility. Duties to include inventory review and control, income statement account reviews and balance sheet account reconciliations.
Work with commercial and operations management to develop annual and quarterly financial plans, forecasts and overhead budgets. Participate in the annual strategic process for Grain and quarterly reviews of strategic projects and income.
Support the Gain business unit with regular and ad-hoc financial analyses. Potential areas of analyses include capital spending and projects, working capital deployment, Return on Invested Capital (ROIC), industrial costs, trading margins, commodity positions, industry and market condition analysis and others.
Prepare / Review the monthly reconciliation of cash activities (contracts and inventory) to futures (hedge positions). Review documentation of month end inventory valuations used in the monthly Brought to market calculations. Reconcile open and closed futures as well as broker commissions for assigned areas of responsibility.
Periodic analysis of financial variances (monthly, quarterly, annually) for relevant activities including commodity valuation variances, CBOT differences, inventory BTM variances, and other factors. Discuss, review and agree variances with SVP Grain and Head Commodity Traders.
Assist in the management of 3 rd party Warehouse locations including set up / understanding of the agreement, monthly payments and accruals, oversight of transactions / inventory management, crop year settle-ups, UCC filings, signage posting, etc.
Perform ad hoc reporting, analysis and research various data as needed by management.
- BS/BA degree (Accounting or Accounting Concentration) - REQUIRED
10 + years of solid Accounting experience
Strong analytical skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of GAAP
Understanding of systems and software applications
Experience in Agribusiness and/or manufacturing
Exposuure to Agriculture Commodity Trading & Hedge Positions
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
Normal climate controlled office environment. Able to communicate on the telephone and use standard office equipment. Able to move freely throughout the facility. Able to move freely throughout the Division facilities to include climbing heights (0-150’), exposure to extreme temperatures (0-100 Degrees Fahrenheit, humidity, (0-100%), noise (50db to 100db) and chemicals (MSDS sheets available). Able to travel to remote Agribusiness facilities and other locations as required.
