The MircoHealth Services Tech 4 provides sample tracking, preparation and cataloging of samples as well as performing quantitative and qualitative microbiological test procedures.
This position is Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs salmonella and campylobacter tests on birds and rinses sent in from other plants - pathogen testing.
Accurately processes daily samples brought to the lab for bacterial testing.
Accurately logging and reporting of results.
Requires standing for long periods and lifting of 40-74 ob boxes - Daily TPC's.In the preparation of culture media, measurement and autoclaving procedures must be performed accurately; handles various chemicals and reagents - some of which require protective gear and safety handling techniques.
Requires microbiological and odor testing up to spoilage for shelf life projects and tenderness testing.
Maintains lab sanitation.
Keeps work area free of safety hazards.
- AA degree in science or related field. A Bachelor's degree in a science related field may be substituted for experience.
2 - 4 years experience.
Good communication, computer, science and math skills.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
Position is active. On the plant floor activities such as troubleshooting and re-design of existing systems are routine. May need to move equipment occasionally. Requires lifting 40 - 75 lbs as well as some handling of spoiled product. May need to access files, supplies and equipment. Position requires an associate to have the ability to move throughout the complex and all facilities. When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces. May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity. May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db. May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility. Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company. Position provides exposure to pathogenic organisms and various chemicals as listed in the QA MSDS manual.
