Summary

The Risk Manager is responsible for assisting with management of the company’s claims processes including Workers’ Compensation, General Liability, Auto Liability, and Property claims. They will be preparing annual insurance renewal submissions and reviewing contracts to determine adequate insurance limits. This person will be partnering with Leadership to drive risk awareness and mitigation. Some travel may be required.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works with Sr. Risk Manager to manage claim investigations, settlements and litigation in combination with Perdue leadership. Manages legal affairs arising out of casualty claim activity. Works closely with Corporate legal regarding responses to insurance carriers for Directors & Officers (D&O)/EPLI (Employer Practices Liability Insurance) and miscellaneous class action claims. Arranges appropriate legal representation, oversees the management of legal expenses and maintains current laws and regulations affective exposures; assures compliance with statutory reporting obligations. Reviews reservation of rights issued by carriers and coordinates responses.

  • Partners with Sr. Risk Manager to directs the cost-effective resolution of casualty claims. Assist with managing Third Party Administrator (TPA) performance, controls claim costs and manages adjustment expenses. Evaluates defense/settlement of disputed claims and provides recommendation to Management. Controls adjustment of high-value claims with guidance from leadership.

  • Assists with all property losses including required documentation of loss data and claim submission to carriers. Provides timely reporting of property losses to insurer; coordinates adjusters’ activities with Operations; provides consultation with accounting on loss elements. Works with Operations and adjusters to effect maximum recovery or allocation to aggregate deductible. Pushes for closure on all open claims; closure of claims within 3 -6 months of completion of repairs and accounting documentation (depending on severity of claims).

  • Works with Safety and Operations on loss control planning including auto, workers’ compensation and property. Assists safety department as needed on accident investigation, Occupational and Fleet policy changes and business continuity planning.

  • Assist with Risk Assessment: Analyzing current risks and identifying potential risks that are impacting the company.

  • Evaluates claims based components of Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS). Maintains accurate claims history and database. Prepares and distributes high-value and product liability claim reports. Analyzes claim trends and development.

  • Prepares for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting/compliance for self-insurance and other reporting as required by jurisdiction compliance.

  • Collaborates with Safety and Operations on loss control planning including auto, workers’ compensation and property. Assists safety department as needed on accident investigation, Occupational and Fleet policy changes and business continuity planning.

  • Reviews contracts with independent haulers and suppliers to ensure compliance with Company Risk Management requirements as required by contract. Works with respective departments to ensure requirements and provides recommendations to Risk Management where corrective action is needed.

  • Performing review of contracts or business proposals to ensure adequate insurance coverages are in place.

  • Building risk awareness amongst staff by providing support and training within the company.

  • Prepares annual insurance renewal submission to brokers. Participates in calls discussing the renewal options and prepares report for Senior leadership summarizing proposed renewal terms and conditions that provide guidance for binding decision.

Minimum Education and Experience

REQUIRED: Bachelors degree in Business Administration or related field plus 3-5 years of related experience. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate in a professional manner when dealing with Third Party Administrators, Insurance Brokers, and Company contacts. Knowledge of Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS).

PREFERRED: Insurance industry designations such as: Associate in Risk Management or CPCU. 5-7 years of related experience is highly preferred.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings.

May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.

May need to access files, supplies and equipment.

Work activity is in an office, open-partitioned, cubicle environment.
