Summary

The Pork Production Scheduling Manager is responsiblle for scheduling assigned categories or plants for Niman Ranch Fresh Pork division. This includes determining fresh pork surpluses, production scheduling, working closely with Fresh & Prepared Foods Production Directors, liaison with plant personnel and plant issues. Position also entails weekly coordination with other aspects of pork operations, trade marketing and sales for forecasting and allocation communications.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide weekly surplus for Fresh Pork: utilizing forecasts, demand, production, inventory, available head count, seasonal adjustments.

  • Evaluates Sales Forecasts vs. Actual Orders for Fresh Pork with Sales Forecasting Manager to improve accuracy.

  • Manages packaging for Fresh Pork. This will include maintaining inventory to ensure no disruption to production as a result of out of stock packaging. Developing new packaging or updating any current packaging as needed.

  • Regularly visits production plants and co-packer(s) to address current issues or problems, find opportunities for lower costs and/or greater efficiencies, or conduct inventory counts.

  • Assist with new Fresh Pork product requests involving new code setup and production spec creation.

  • Maintain Belly and Ham forecast worksheet.

  • Maintain promotional tracker for Fresh Pork teams and analyzing any outcomes.

  • Maintain weekly shorts and allocation worksheets for Fresh Pork teams.

  • Maintain weekly and daily Fresh Pork USDA pricing tracker.

  • Maintain Production Register Costing workbook for Fresh Pork.

  • Verify production and track production yields for the Fresh Pork Team.

  • Ability to schedule Fresh Pork production on a weekly basis. Will entail the following:

  • Schedules fresh pork production based on weekly Sales and Prepared Pork raw material orders.

  • Creates weekly production schedules for plants and co-packers.

  • Coordinates Prepared Food’s raw material production and shipping breakout.

  • Provides weekly surplus beyond orders that will need to be coordinated with the plant.

Minimum Education

High school or equivalent.

Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Meat Science, Supply Chain Management, Business, or 3+ years of meat industry or production experience

  • Prior experience working with manufacturing processes for prepared meats or fresh meats; preferred experience in pork

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point.

  • Willingness to travel as necessary, with emphasis on attending production on a weekly basis.

  • Team player and detail oriented

Based in Sioux City/Sioux Center, IA. Remote location considered pending ability to travel.

Experience Preferred

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

Time spent in refrigerated meat plant environment for up to 5 days per week. The remainder of the week will be spent on yield reports, logistics and industrial sales out of plant, company or home office. Position requires exposure to plant and shipping areas, which involves exposure to cold temperatures, moving parts, noise, and equipment. Office time also required for viewing the cut sheets, verifying specs and shipping destinations and order matching.
